• Former Rep. Mark Foley has prostate cancer and will have surgery Friday, five weeks after the cancer was discovered during a routine exam, reports Newsmax. Foley, 56, left Congress five years ago after admitting he sent explicit text messages to male pages; he now lives in Florida and hosts a weekly political talk show. “I made it through 2006,” he said, “so this is a minor bump in the road.”

Willie Nelson.

• Willie Nelson’s plea deal has been rejected by the judge, who says he’s getting special treatment. Nelson was arrested last year in Texas after authorities found six ounces of marijuana on his tour bus. The local prosecutor said last month that Nelson would plead guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia and pay a $500 fine. Not so fast, said Judge Becky Dean-Walker, who told the Associated Press Wednesday that the singer, 78, should be treated like any other person and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession — which could mean up a year in jail.
