Video: Kid Rock, “Born Free”

• Mitt Romney’s official campaign song? “Born Free” by Kid Rock, a fellow son of Detroit, reports our colleague Philip Rucker. Totally inoffensive lyrics: “Free, like a river raging / Strong as the wind I’m facing,” etc. The candidate played it Tuesday as Dan Quayle endorsed him in Arizona.

• Lady Gaga paid a surprisingly low-key visit to the White House Tuesday on the matter of her favorite cause: bullying prevention. The president (whom she met at a San Jose fundraiser in September) was out of town, though, so she met with Valerie Jarrett. Sightings were elusive, but ABC spotted her in long white dress and heels and subdued makeup.

• The brother of MSNBC host Chris Matthews was arrested Tuesday for alleged perjury. Jim Matthews, Republican chairman of the Montgomery County (Pa.) Commissioners, was charged with lying to a grand jury about directing county resources to a family-owned mortgage firm, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Alec Baldwin abruptly left an American Airlines flight before takeoff in Los Angeles Tuesday after exchanging words with a flight attendant. The actor, acknowledging the incident in a series of tweets, said she chided him for playing with his smartphone.
