• The White House announced Wednesday that Shakira has been named to the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. The Latin music superstar has worked with UNICEF and helped to open schools in developing countries via her Barefoot Foundation, administration officials noted in a press release that referred to her by her rarely-used full name (Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll). The Colombian citizen (she has an American-born dad) and her fellow new commission members will be sworn in Thursday, so keep your eyes peeled. Just the latest showbiz icon to advise POTUS. Jon Bon Jovi last year was tapped to join the White House Council for Community Solutions. Clay Aiken
served a term with the Presidential Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities.
