Like the man says, it’s 5 o’clock somewhere — even in the Situation Room! The White House’s National Security Council staff got an unexpected visit Tuesday afternoon from Jimmy Buffett.
The ever-mellow singer-songwriter — in town, we’re told, for the groundbreaking of an education center at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial — greeted the folks who work in the Situation Room and about 20 other national security staffers; also chatted with Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta. In jeans and a sweater, the Bard of Happy Hour posed for photos and at one point grabbed a clock off the wall — guess what time it just happened to be when he walked in? Proof, Buffett joked, that it really is 5 o’clock somewhere.
