Engaged: Sen. Susan Collins, 59, to management consultant Thomas A. Daffron, 73. The two became friends in the late 1970s as staffers for then-Sen. Bill Cohen, but they only started dating a few years ago. He’s the chief operating officer of D.C.-based Jefferson Consulting Group who also advised her during her three Senate races. She told the Bangor Daily News they share a love of swimming, kayaking and reading. First wedding for the Maine Republican. They’re planning a small summer ceremony in her home state.
