Nancy Pelosi looks back on 25 years in Congress

Nancy Pelosi celebrated 25 years in the House like, oh, any other member of Congress: A party with Bono and Richard Gere Tuesday in New York, an interview/lovefest with Rachel Maddow at the Sewall-Belmont House Wednesday. Fun fact: She originally planned to retire after 10 years to be a full-time grandmother.

Any big surprises after a quarter century? The first female speaker — elected in 1987 on a pledge to fight for AIDS funding— told the audience at the women’s museum she “never would have thought at the time that we still would not have a cure. . . We still have so much work to do.”
