Obama to host White House state dinner for German Chancellor Angela Merkel on June 7

Charles Dharapak/AP President Obama with German Chancellor Merkel at the G-20 summit in Seoul in November. Clear your calendar! The White House has announced its next state dinner: a June 7 fete for German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her husband Dr. Joachim Sauer. President Obama’s fourth state dinner will be the first German state visit since April 1992, when President Richard von Weizsäcker was hosted at the White House only two years after East and West Germany were reunified. (Among George H.W. Bush’s VIP guests that night: Angie Dickinson, Chris Evert, Florence Griffith-Joyner, John Grisham, Brent Scowcroft, Brit Hume, Roger Moore.) So, save the date, and remember: Just because the White House won’t announce its guests until the day of the dinner doesn’t mean you can’t tell us if you’ve been invited. reliablesource@washpost.com.
