“Are they putting us through?!? If this has worked, it’s the easiest prank call we’ve ever made.”
— Michael Christian, an Australian DJ on the air early Tuesday as he and co-host Mel Greig managed to get a London hospital switchboard to connect them to Kate Middleton’s nursing staff by pretending to be Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles. Despite their incredibly hokey and obvious shtick (“Charles, when are you going to walk those bloody corgis?”), a nurse shared details on how Prince William’s pregnant wife is coping with morning sickness. The DJs apologized Wednesday, reports the Associated Press, and the hospital promised an investigation. (Update, 12/7, as story takes tragic turn:
nurse involved in inquiry dies)
