Arsht in her Washington home.
(Matt McClain for The Washington Post)
Adrienne Arsht is making a big splash in Washington by giving away the millions she made in Florida banking and establishing herself in power-broker circles. Annie Groer reports in a magazine profile that her highly visible ways have drawn “critics.” They don’t speak on the record, but Arsht has some shrewd responses for them:
On snark about her busy social calendar: “Male bank presidents who were out at the same events were called ‘business executives,’ [and] I was called ‘a socialite.’ ”
On her non-anonymous philanthropy: “Carnegie Hall, is that nouveau? We can name buildings after companies? That’s okay?”
On what she’s aspiring to: “Just to make a difference, just to matter.”
