Read this: Anwan “Big G” Glover; Michelle Rhee

Anwan Glover. (Ricky Carioti/ The Washington Post)
Sad news for D.C.-bred actor and activist Anwan “Big G” Glover, whose teenage son was wounded by gunfire at a party in Glenarden, Md., over the weekend. Glover plays stone-cold killers in “The Wire” (he was Slim Charles) and “Treme,” but in real life the former Columbia Heights tough has spent the past several years as an advocate trying to save D.C. youth from street violence. His son is expected to recover, but our colleague Courtland Milloy found him at the hospital Sunday devastated by the close call: “From where I came from, trying so hard to transition out, then to realize that no matter how far you go it’s always going to be around.”

Valerie Strauss wants Michelle Rhee to stop telling everyone what lousy soccer players her daughters are (in speeches decrying America’s ribbon-awarding self-esteem-boosting culture).
