Read this: Dave Grohl on growing up in NoVa; Chris Cooley makes pottery

(Joel Salcido for The Washington Post)
Experts agree: Dave Grohl is an awesome guy, whether you’re a Foo Fighters fan or not. And he’s one of ours! Chris Richards indulges Grohl’s Northern Virginia nostalgia, and he in turn indulges our fascination with the Bishop Ireton/Thomas Jefferson/Annandale dropout (yes, everyone who says they went to high school with Dave Grohl really did) who made history with Nirvana.

Can’t get enough? Here are outtakes from Grohl’s interview (memories of cranking Gerry Rafferty on the shores of Pohick Bay) and photos of Dave Grohl through the years.

Also, checking in with another local hero: Redskins star Chris Cooley keeps fire burning during NFL lockout by making pottery, selling it at his own Leesburg boutique.
