Read this: Gabrielle Giffords releases first photos since shooting

The general public hasn’t seen Rep. Gabrielle Giffords since she was shot in early January. But now as she prepares to leave the hospital in less than a month, Giffords’s staff released a couple photos of her via Facebook on Sunday — in hopes of satisfying public curiosity and thus fending off unwanted paparazzi attention as she begins outpatient therapy. She’s smiling, and there are no obvious signs of her injury, other than her close-cropped hair — but the images don’t indicate much about her cognitive abilities or what her prognosis may be. Her staff recently gave a candid (and slightly grim) account of how she’s doing to the Arizona Republic.
