A poignant moment at the John Edwards trial on Wednesday, as Jennifer Palmieri — now the White House deputy communications director, who in 2008 was Edwards’ campaign spokeswoman — broke into sobs on the witness stand, reports our colleague Manuel Roig-Franzia. The heartbreaking moment came as Palmieri testified about the final days of her close friend Elizabeth Edwards, who worried “she would be alone when she died” and that “there would not be a man around her who loved her.” Palmieri had to take a few moments to compose herself before resuming testimony — and by the look on Edwards’s face, this was pretty tough stuff to him to relive as well.
