Read this: Obama fashion clout; Ray LaHood road trip; D.C. Council scandals

Other interesting stories in The Washington Post

Michelle Obama’s savvy fashion choices coordinate very nicely with her husband’s fundraising, reports our colleague Katherine Boyle. Many of the American luxury labels she prefers have been generous supporters of the president. Fashion folks say they’re naturally drawn to Obama’s political stances — but they also like the spotlight the first lady has cast on their industry.

Road trip!!! Ray LaHood is bound for Idaho, Mississippi, Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota this summer, reports our colleague Ashley Halsey. Why? Because then the secretary of transportation can say he’s been to all 50 states — whoohoo! (What about, say, Guam? Yep, just did it!)

“There is nothing sexy about the D.C. Council, so stop trying to make it like that.”

Petula Dvorak on the “sense of entitlement” (designer shoes, fully-loaded SUVs, etc.) that seems to underlie the latest city scandals. Any coincidence, she wonders, that both of our recently indicted council members are princelings of political dynasties?
