Update: Evermay finds a buyer

• Evermay, the historic mansion in the heart of Georgetown, has finally found a buyer. The sale was first reported by DC UrbanTurf; agent Jeanne Livingston confirmed to us that the 18th-century “national treasure” just went under contract. The 3.5-acre estate was originally listed in late 2008 for $49 million — a price that raised eyebrows in the crippled economy — but dropped to $25.9 million this year. Truly a great bargain for a property like this, several Realtors told us, for someone with the means to buy. Livingston would not reveal the final selling price (it will eventually come out in city records) or who bought it; our intel says the new owner is a very private local with several homes.
