Journey documentary: A look back at its Salahi-studded premiere

“Don’t Stop Believin’: Everyman’s Journey” — the documentary about how Arnel Pineda was plucked from YouTube obscurity to become the new frontman for Journey — is now in movie theaters. We were there last year when it opened the Silverdocs film festival  — and guitarist Neal Schon caused a stir by walking the red carpet with his future-fiancee Michaele Salahi and bailing out before the Q&A. (He said he never agreed to participate.) How’s the movie? It’s a fascinating story and a crowd-pleaser, says critic Ann Hornaday, but it “rarely prob[es] more deeply than the narrative [Pineda] and his bandmates provide.”
