Ed Asner rushed to hospital midway through ‘FDR’ performance

Ed Asner (Don Ryan/AP)

Mr. Grant!!! Ed Asner was rushed off a stage in Gary, Ind., Tuesday after he appeared disoriented. His rep told the local newspaper he was hospitalized for exhaustion. The sitcom legend, 83, had been performing a one-man show about FDR.

(Apparently playing historic U.S. figures is his thing these days: In 2009, our colleague Michael O’Sullivan talked to Asner about playing William Jennings Bryan in “The Great Tennessee Monkey Trial” . . . Also: Can you believe Ed Asner was only 40 when “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” premiered?) Earlier: Valerie Harper on cancer, facing her mortality
