Elaine Stritch shouting down audience members who gave the obligatory “awwwww” when she mentioned having suffered “a couple of bad falls” during her farewell cabaret performance Tuesday night, reports AP. The salty Broadway legend, 88, plans to retire to Michigan after seven decades in Manhattan: “I’m going to kind of take it easy. Every time I leave the building, I fall on my ass. . . I am going to be able to go to sleep at 9 o’clock at night. I’ve been up all my life.” (Read the full AP account from last night: Legendary Broadway star Elaine Stritch says goodbye to New York with moving cabaret show). . . Stritch has been ailing for years; during a 2010 White House performance, she forgot the lyrics but soldiered on. And then pleased the crowd by declaring she wanted to get drunk with the Obamas.
