Chris Christie acknowledges having weight-loss surgery

If you’re a likely 2016 voter, there may soon be a whole lot less Chris Christie to love. The New Jersey governor acknowledged that he recently had weight-loss surgery.

In an interview late Monday with the New York Post, Christie said he had the lap-band stomach surgery — which limits the amount of food one can consume — in February and is already seeing results. “A week or two ago, I went to a steakhouse and ordered a steak and ate about a third of it and I was full.”

The hefty pol said he wasn’t motivated to slim down because of presidential aspirations, but for the sake of his family. “For me, this is about turning 50 and looking at my children and wanting to be there for them.” More on Chris Christie and his weight-loss surgery at Post Politics.

Just days before his surgery, Christie appeared on David Letterman’s show and joked about his girth. As the host brought up the topic, the governor nonchalantly whipped out a doughtnut and took a bite. “I didn’t know this was going to be this long,” he deadpanned.
