Charles Saatchi, the art dealer husband of Nigella Lawson, took an official warning from London police Monday over an incident in which he appeared to attack the celebrity chef, British newspapers are reporting this morning.

Saatchi, 70, accepted the “caution” after a lengthy interview with police — but he told the Evening Standard that he did so to resolve an investigation that might otherwise be “hanging over all of us for months.” He was not arrested.

Widely circulated tabloid photos showed Saatchi and Lawson in a confrontation outside a London restaurant in which he grabbed her by the throat. A rep for Lawson acknowledged to reporters Monday that she has left their home with her children; Saatchi has said they quickly made up after the “playful tiff.” (See also at AP: Charles Saatchi admits assault on wife)
