Expecting: Rep. Joaquin Castro and his fiancee Anna Flores, the first-term congressman announced Tuesday night at his joint 39th birthday party with his twin brother, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro. She’s carrying a girl and is due in December, he told supporters — emphasizing that they’re still on track to get married “next year.” Sign of the times, huh? But the consensus in Texas seems to be that this is neither a surprise (Flores, now visibly pregnant, divulged her condition on Facebook last month, reports the San Antonio Express) nor cause for scandal. Castro said that he and Flores — who works for a tech firm and is based in San Antonio — have been dating nearly three years. (In 2008, Rep. Linda Sanchez was briefly on track to be the first unwed mom to give birth while in Congress, but she and beau Jim Sullivan ended up tying the knot before her due date.)
