Embassy guests find themselves with parking tickets after ‘Soiree Suisse’

September 24, 2013

Word to the wise: Careful when parking at the Swiss embassy. After the annual “Soiree Suisse” in Woodley Park, some of the 1,300 guests found $100 tickets on their windshields. We’re told that during the party, three D.C. vehicles pulled up and a team quickly issued tickets to cars parked on a grassy strip adjacent to the embassy on 29th Street — which looks like part of embassy grounds, but is actually city turf. A rep for D.C.’s Department of Public Works confirmed 55 tickets were issued, most for “public space violations.” An embassy spokeswoman told us this is the first time in a dozen years of hosting the party that guests have been ticketed; next year, the embassy will cordon off the grass.
