Briefly: Miley Cyrus, Sarah Palin, Oprah

Hmm, who do you think was named MTV’s Artist of the Year? Was it the singer who made sure people are still talking about the VMAs? That’s right — Miley Cyrus has won the honor. Not surprisingly, her twerking-centric “We Can’t Stop/Blurred Lines” collaboration with Robin Thicke was the most-watched video of the year on MTV’s Web site. “She dominated the music charts and critics’ best-of lists while creating some of the year’s most memorable moments,” said Amy Doyle, head of the network’s music and talent programming strategy. Past honorees  include Katy Perry and One Direction. (AP)

Sarah Palin has landed another show: “Amazing America with Sarah Palin” will debut on the Sportsman Channel in April, announced the network (available in about 32 million homes). According to the release, the show will “explore some of the most original, interesting – and sometimes inspiring – people, places and pastimes connected to America’s outdoors lifestyle.” This is just the next in a series of reality show participation for the Palin family: “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” aired on TLC in 2010; Bristol competed in two seasons of “Dancing With the Stars” and had her own “Life’s a Tripp” docu-series on A&E; and Todd was a contestant on NBC’s “Stars Earn Stripes” last summer. Oprah’s Book Club has made its newest selection…wait, Oprah still has a book club? Well technically, this is called “Oprah’s Book Club 2.0,” launched last summer, to differentiate between her other club that aired in the days of her talk show. Anyway, this time, the honor is bestowed upon “The Invention of Wings” by Sue Monk Kidd (author of “The Secret Life of Bees”). (TVBytheNumbers)
