Sony Pictures options David Ignatius novel

Another spy tale might be coming to the big screen. Sony Pictures has optioned the rights to our colleague David Ignatius’s soon-to-be published novel “The Director” (it’s about… you guessed it, the adventures of the head of the spy agency),  and lined up Scott Rudin to produce and Paul Greengrass to direct.

Ignatius, who was mum about the deal’s dollar figure, says the involvement of the Rudin-Greengrass team (who last joined forces on the Tom Hanks action thriller “Captain Phillips”) gives him more confidence that the optioned film will make its way to theaters. “They have a history of getting good movies made,” he says.
