Hey isn’t that… “Touched by an Angel” actress Roma Downey and her husband Mark Burnett, the executive producer behind “Survivor” and “The Voice,” attending the National Prayer Breakfast at the Washington Hilton on Thursday.
53-year-old Downey looked trendy in skinny black pants and black suede wedge sneakers while her husband Burnett, also 53, wore dark rinse jeans and a navy blazer. Fresh off their wildly successful mini-series “The Bible,” the pair were in town promoting their new Jesus biopic, “Son of God,” which Burnett described as “a political thriller wrapped up in an epic movie.”
“It was important that we set the political and historical context in the film,” said Downey, who also stars as Jesus’s mother Mary, in an interview with the Reliable Source. Burnett drew parallels between the political powder keg of Jerusalem in around 20 A.D. to today’s bureaucratic landscape. Pontius Pilate, the Roman prefect who sentenced Jesus to death, was an official under a lot pressure, according to Burnett. “He was like the U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan,” he said. “Nobody wants that job.”
