Anyone who says “yes” to a giant rock and an offer of marriage from Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor could be said to have supremely good judgement.

And it turns out that Amal Alamuddin, the British lawyer engaged to actor George Clooney, learned from a pro. The high-profile attorney (who’s also drop-dead gorgeous, natch) was a student law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor when the justice was on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and Alamuddin was a student at New York University’s law school, People magazine reports.

Clooney’s already got a prominent pal in the executive branch (he shoots hoops and catches movies with President Obama). Now it looks like he’s got an in with the judicial branch, too.
