More than 150 Washingtonians attended DC Vote’s first annual Three Star Ball at the NAR Building’s rooftop on Thursday. With a clear view of the Capitol dome, District notables such as Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton and D.C. Council Chair Phil Mendelson gathered in support of full voting rights for the residents of the District of Columbia and toasted the night’s honorees: Washington Life editor-in-chief Nancy Bagley and the duo behind the DC Brau Brewing Company, Brandon Skall and Jeff Hancock.
“If history has taught us anything, it is that these rights were given to us for good reason. When these rights are withheld without due process, we open the door to a very scary reality. It is time to shut that door,” said Skall upon receiving the organization’s “Raising the Bar” award.
