Christina Aguilera names her daughter Summer Rain
Pop star Christina Aguilera and her fiancé Matt Rutler welcomed their first child together on Saturday and took to Twitter the next day to announce her eco-inspired name. “So proud to welcome our beautiful daughter Summer Rain Rutler into the world,” Aguilera tweeted. The couple’s daughter joins Max, 6, the four-time Grammy winner’s son from her previous marriage to music exec Jordan Bratman.
The “Just a Fool” singer revealed in a recent interview with V Magazine that she’s taking time off from “The Voice,” but she plans on returning to the NBC talent series for its eighth season. She also told V that she’s working on a new album and hit the studio just last week to begin production.
Aguilera, 33, met Rutler, a film producer, on the set of her 2010 film “Burlesque.” They announced their engagement one week before they announced her pregnancy in February.
Elizabeth Vargas is back in rehab
The “20/20” co-anchor and ABC News correspondent Elizabeth Vargas entered rehab on Saturday for alcohol abuse, Vargas’s rep has confirmed.
“While on vacation this weekend, I decided to return to a recovery center,” Vargas said in a statement. “As so many other recovering alcoholics know, overcoming the disease can be a long and incredibly difficult process.”
Vargas, 51, also entered a rehabilitation facility last fall for an increasing dependency on alcohol. She returned to television in January and went to “Good Morning America” to discuss her time away, where she announced “I am an alcoholic,” and added that it took her a while to admit this to her family. Vargas, who is married to “Walking in Memphis” singer-songwriter Marc Cohn, is currently working on a book about her experience with the disease.
J.K. Rowling unveils a new character
J.K. Rowling unveiled a new character in the Harry Potter universe on Monday and she just so happens to be Ron Weasley’s mom’s favorite singer. Celestina Warbeck was mentioned throughout the seven Potter books but was never actually fully developed as a character, so now Rowling has published a biography of the stylish songstress. First excerpted on Today.com, the 500-word bio breakdown can also be read in full if you have a membership for Pottermore.com, the online home of everything Harry Potter & Co. related.
“Internationally-acclaimed singing sensation Celestina Warbeck (sometimes known as ‘the Singing Sorceress’) hails from Wales. Her father, a minor functionary in the Muggle Liaison Office, met her Muggle mother (a failed actress) when the latter was attacked by a Lethifold disguised as a stage curtain…Some of Celestina’s best-known songs include ‘You Charmed the Heart Right Out of Me’ and ‘A Cauldron Full of Hot, Strong Love,'” Rowling writes.
Rowling, 49, mentioned on “The Today Show” that Warbeck is one of her favorite off-stage characters and is meant to resemble legendary and glamorous vocalist Shirley Bassey. This new installment for her die-hard fans comes on the heels of the 1,500-word update on a slew of central Potter characters, proving that there’s really no stopping Rowling’s imagination.
