No ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ reunion: Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan’s near miss at the Virginia Governor’s Mansion

August 19, 2014

Fans of 1990s rom-coms will have to wait a little longer for a reunion of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan  – at least at Virginia governor’s mansion — since the the two actors were like ships in the night in recent visits.

On Saturday night, Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) hosted Ryan and the cast and crew of “Ithaca,” the flick that Ryan is directing that’s filming around the commonwealth. Hanks, who is an executive producer on the project, couldn’t make it to the fete, so he dropped by Monday night for a one-on-one visit with the governor.

And while he didn’t get to see his “Sleepless in Seattle” co-star there, Hanks randomly did run into another celeb: Smokey Bear, the loveable mascot for the U.S. Forest Service, was there for a reception marking his 70th birthday (the two icons snapped a pic).

McAuliffe spokesman says his boss no doubt used the confab with the Oscar winner to bring up a favorite topic: wooing more movie and TV projects to film in Virginia, something the governor says will bring money and jobs into the state.

Perhaps he could also convince Hanks to film a sequel to “You’ve Got Mail”?
