Tell us how you really feel, Carolina.
In a recent interview with Haute Living magazine just in time for fashion week, New York-based designer Carolina Herrera had this to say about her fellow Manhattanites, “I have never seen people so badly dressed in my life! It’s amazing the way they look! I don’t know why…I don’t know what’s going on…but it’s really, really bad.”
The 75-year-old took particular umbrage with the crop top, which, according to Herrera, is a trend reserved solely for the very young and the very fit.
“Everybody is wearing the wrong clothes,” complained the Venezuelan-born designer. “Proportion is very important. Wear clothes that are flattering to your figure and appropriate for your personality.”
So if the Big Apple — style’s global HQ — is more horrendous than haute, how does Washington (home of the boxy suit) make out?
Herrera, a favorite among first ladies, had high praise for Michelle Obama, who wore one of the designer’s gowns for the state dinner in honor of French President Francois Hollande in February.
“Ms. Obama…knows how to dress for her figure,” said Herrera, who also dubbed former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis “the epitome of elegance.”
If the rest of us can just steer clear of crop tops, we might be all right.
