The Republican Jewish Coalition is out with a new ad, blasting President Obama on Jerusalem:
Ouch.
But this is not a partisan matter. As I noted earlier, every major Jewish organization takes the position Jerusalem is the capital. Many House members and Senators have voted for legislation calling for the U.S. embassy to be moved.
So here is the test for Jewish leaders, including those like former Florida congressman Robert Wexler and Ira Forman who are acting as campaign surrogates: When meeting with the president or his staff, ask what the capital of Israel is. If such “leaders” and “respected” surrogates can’t bring themselves to do it, then they are simply Democratic spinners, not genuine representatives of the Jewish community.
And to the Democratic lawmakers and candidates on the ballot: What is your answer?
This isn’t a hard or close issue. But it is a revealing one.
