Friday question

For weeks President Obama has dawdled and evaded a decision on Libya. On Thursday the U.S. swiftly reversed course and supported a U.N. resolution pushed by France, Britain and the Arab League to use military force against Gaddafi.

Why did Obama reverse course, and was it wise or foolish to wait for, not a congressional resolution, but the U.N.?
