Morning Bits

The real problem is not in Gaza, but in Tehran. “Israeli intelligence satellites have spied the loading of rockets and other materiel believed to be destined for the Gaza Strip, The Sunday Times reported citing Israeli officials. According to the report, Iran began preparing the weapons shipment around the same time Israel and Hamas negotiated cease-fire understandings late last week.”

The problems with Obamacare are multiplying. “The Obama administration faces major logistical and financial challenges in creating health insurance exchanges for states that have declined to set up their own systems. The exchanges were designed as the centerpiece of President Obama’s signature law, and are intended to make buying health insurance comparable to booking a flight or finding a compatible partner on Match.com. Sixteen states — most of them governed by Republicans — have said they will not set up their own systems, forcing the federal government to come up with one instead.”

The problem is a president willing to hold national security hostage in his class-warfare gambit. “Sen. Carl Levin (D-Mich.) warned on Sunday that those employed in the defense industry should be worried about the possibility of sequestration. ‘You should be worried if you have a defense job,’ the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee said on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press.’”

The problem isn’t going away. “King: Susan Rice ‘Has an Obligation Not Just to Be a Puppet.’”

The problem is until Republicans change their approach on immigration they won’t be heard on anything else. It is a conversation stopper. “Republicans should certainly strive to address Hispanic voters with open arms and a welcoming tone, as any party should address all voters. But what they offer them should be the same thing they offer to voters of any other background: a conservative message of economic growth and social mobility, traditional moral values, and a strong national defense.” Conservatives are kidding themselves if they think immigration reform is not essential.

The problem is President Obama doesn’t have the nerve. “A leading Republican senator, John McCain of Arizona, said Sunday that the Obama administration should threaten to withhold financial aid from Egypt unless President Mohamed Morsi rescinds a recent decree that grants his office sweeping new powers.”

The problem is the president wants to continue the class warfare that won him reelection. “It’s extremely stupid to raise taxes on the investor class when we desperately need new business investment to jumpstart the economy. We can’t expect the wealthy to create new companies and new jobs if we’re taking away their gambling money in the form of taxes. But, of course, America will survive a tax hike on the wealthiest 2%, or 5%, or 10% of its citizens. They will pay the higher rates and still be millionaires. But I wish Obama and his liberal allies would stop misleading Americans by telling us that the wealthiest Americans need to ‘pay their fair share.’” Read the whole thing.
