Yikes. “Iran possesses the ‘largest number of ballistic missiles in the Middle East’ and is secretly producing long-range missiles capable of carrying a nuclear payload, according to a nonpartisan report authored by Congress’ research arm.”

Splat. “The Obama administration hosted a media call today to tout the fact that a whole six states have received ‘conditional approval’ for their state-based health exchanges. Unsurprisingly, the six states mentioned on the call — Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Oregon, and Washington — are all blue states with Democratic governors.” It’s almost like no one wants to be responsible for an unwieldy, unpopular and dishonestly funded new entitlement.

Ouch. “The U.S. is unique among developed countries in having its cultural, educational, scientific and religious institutions supported not primarily by the government but by philanthropic largess – a largess that has also served as a tremendous economic stimulus. . . . Capping the tax deduction for charitable contributions will have a devastating effect, directly and indirectly. So, it’s not surprising that representatives of non-profit organizations are descending on Capitol Hill to fight to keep the deduction alive.” Hard choices ahead for all elected officials.

Oof. “Almost two decades after the Clinton administration failed to intervene in the genocide in Rwanda, the United States is coming under harsh criticism for not moving forcefully in another African crisis marked by atrocities and brutal killings, this time in Rwanda’s neighbor, the Democratic Republic of Congo. While President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton have taken some of the blame, critics of the Obama administration’s Africa policy have focused on the role of Susan E. Rice, the United States ambassador to the United Nations and a leading contender to succeed Mrs. Clinton, in the administration’s failure to take action against the country they see as a major cause of the Congolese crisis, Rwanda.”

Wow. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Fox News, speaking about the president: “You just got reelected. How about doing something big that is not liberal? How about doing something big that really is bipartisan? Every big idea he has is a liberal idea that drowns us in debt. How about manning up here, Mr. President, and use your mandate to bring this country together to stop us from becoming Greece?”

Sheesh. “Doug Shulman, the former IRS commissioner, said the IRS and the 2012 tax filing season will be thrown into ‘chaos’ if lawmakers do not fix the so-called alternative minimum tax by the end of the year.” This seems an annual scramble now.

Ugh. “Obama Campaign Reactivates On Fiscal Cliff.” Did it ever deactivate?
