Many reasons to oppose Thomas Perez as Labor secretary. Here’s one: “In brief, in a complicated quid pro quo, Perez bullied the city of St. Paul, Minnesota, into dropping a case that surely would have resulted in defeat for one of his pet, radical, race-based legal theories, in a way the [Wall Street Journal] described as ‘a story of how political muscle undermined the rule of law.’ ”
Many complaints about George W. Bush just aren’t grounded in facts. A big spender? Hardly: “In fact, over the last 40 years and eight presidencies, only two presidents have kept spending below 20 percent of GDP in even a single year: George W. Bush did it in six of his eight fiscal years; Bill Clinton in four.”
Many smart conservatives favor immigration reform. Grover Norquist: “The more you see it the more you like. It’s the opposite of Obamacare.” Watch the whole thing.
Many Republicans would get bounced for saying this. But liberal Dem Bob Beckel keeps spouting junk: “I think we really have to consider, that given the fact so many people hate us, we’re going to have to cut off Muslim students from coming to this country for some period of time so that we can at least absorb what we got, look at what we’ve got and decide whether some of the people here should be sent back home or sent to prison.” Good golly.
Many inconvenient facts for Hillary Clinton. “House Republicans on Tuesday unveiled a report on last year’s Benghazi attack that blames former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for approving lax security measures and accuses her of seeking to cover up her department’s failures.”
Many in the media thought this was an open-and-shut case. Not so fast: “Authorities dropped charges Tuesday against Paul Kevin Curtis, the Mississippi man accused of sending ricin-laced letters to the White House, a U.S. senator and a Mississippi judge, and the FBI may have turned its attention to another man in connection with the poison attacks. A federal magistrate judge ordered the charges dropped because ‘the ongoing investigation has revealed new information.’ The charges were dropped without prejudice, meaning they could be lodged again in the future.”
Many facts point to the brothers’ Islamic radicalization. “The radicalization of Tamerlan Tsarnaev: Older ‘bomber’ studied Koran for days at a time and witnessed ‘bombings and shootings’ in Islamic Dagestan capital.”
Many times the president has identified our enemy as al Qaeda. Not so, as the Boston bombings showed: “The surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon attacks told federal agents that he and his brother were motivated by extremist Islamic beliefs but that they were not connected to any known terrorist groups, law enforcement officials said on Tuesday, saying that he made those statements in an interview Sunday from his hospital bed.”
