Must. Have. Twinkies. (Reuters photo) When Hostess announced last month that it was going belly up in bankruptcy, ceasing operations and thus turning off the Twinkies spigot, this is what Maranda Berkley saw: $$$$$$$$$$.
Berkley is 29. She lives in Middletown. She has a $2,000 dental bill to pay off, and so, according to the Frederick News-Post, Berkley bought 30 boxes of Twinkies and joined dozens, perhaps hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of $$$$$$$$$$ dreamers selling black market Twinkies on eBay.
What she paid per box: $1. Her resale price: $11 per box. Her inventory of boxes remaining: 8.
“One person from Japan bought three boxes,” Berkley told the paper.
Berkley is also eating into her potential profits.
“I did save a box for myself,” she told the paper. “I can’t help it, I love those things.”
