George Michael records song for William and Kate

Singer George Michael won’t be at the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, but that didn’t stop him from creating a gift for the royal couple. The former Wham! singer, who knew William’s mother, the late Princess Diana, has recorded a song in honor of William and Kate’s nuptials.

Fans should be able to download the track free, the Associated Press reports, but Michael hopes that listeners will donate to the charity fund William and Kate established last month. The couple highlighted 26 charities that they hope people will support in lieu of sending them wedding presents.

Michael, who plans to say more about the song on Piers Morgan’s CNN show tonight, has tweeted that he knows “Diana would have approved”of his song. He also tweeted, AP reports, that on their wedding day the couple should be “surrounded by people they love, not dodgy ex-con pop stars.”
