Christopher Hitchens might be warning Prince William’s fiancee to think twice about the family she is marrying into, but it seems that Kate Middleton’s parents are ready to be related to Britain’s royals.

In fact, Michael and Carole Middleton have just had lunch with Queen Elizabeth II (grandmother of their future son-in-law) and her husband, Prince Philip, at Windsor Castle.

Buckingham Palace released few details, the Associated Press reports, but confirmed that a few members of the queen’s household attended and said that the lunch was a long-standing engagement. An unnamed source told Britain’s Daily Telegraph that the lunch had a “warm atmosphere.”

Kate, the eldest of the Middletons’ three children, is to marry William at Westminster Abbey next Friday, April 29. Her younger sister, Pippa, is her maid of honor. Her brother, James, is not in the wedding party.
