Scalloped lace, v-neck, billow-ed out skirt, lace down the arm, channeling Grace Kelly: the dress the world waited to see has arrived and the jury of the public so far has ruled: gorgeous, stunning, [insert other hyperbole here]. It’s a Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, ending the great speculation over the designer.
The lace applique for the dresses bodice and skirt was hand made by the royal school of needlework. The dress design harkens to the British arts and craft tradition, and Middleton chose the design house because she wanted the dress to combine the tradition with the modernity of McQueen. She worked closely with Sarah Burton in formulating the dress.

The train is 8.8 feet long, according to Glamour magazine, and her earrings, a gift from her parents, were meant to echo the tiara. Vera Wang, speaking on CNN, said the veil’s translucency was a smart move: it’s refined and respectable, but it allows everyone to see Middleton.
The Daily Express royal correspondent, Richard Palmer, also noted that Kate was wearing something “old, new, borrowed, and blue,” as is the tradition for brides.
The influences of Carrickmacross and Arts and Crafs on Middleton’s dress design are the “old,” says Palmer. The earrings, a gift from her parents, are the “new. ”The tiara is “borrowed,” and a blue ribbon sewn into her dress is the “blue.”
Officials released a statement that said: “Miss Middleton wished for her dress to combine tradition and modernity with the artistic vision that characterises Alexander McQueen’s work.” They also said that Middleton worked “closely” with Sarah Burton to formulate the design of her dress.

Kate Middleton, as predicted, looks absolutely stunning. Her dress is more ornate than I was expecting.
