Pippa Middleton, the 27-year-old sister of Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, was photographed in the passenger seat of an Audi convertible in Paris on Monday as the driver brandished a handgun, the Sun reports. According to the British newspaper, the male driver waved the gun and pointed it at a photographer who captured the moment in a photograph that clearly shows the barrel pointed straight on and Pippa smirking in the front seat. The incident happened shortly after Middleton attended the 29th birthday party of Paris fashion entrepreneur Arthur de Soultrait, who was seated in the back of the convertible.
A spokesperson for de Soultrait’s fashion company, Vicomte A, told the Daily Beast the gun was fake, however, calling it “just a stupid joke.”
The French police might not take the event lightly, however, even if it is determined to have been a fake gun. Anyone involved in the illegal use of a handgun in public could face up to seven years in jail, and two years if the gun is fake, the Sun reports.
The event comes on the heels of several high-profile shootings in France, including a string of attacks by an Islamist militant.
Middleton has been the target for paparazzi since her sister’s wedding to Prince William nearly one year ago. Attorneys for the family sent a cease-and-desist letter in January to six media agencies that distribute paparazzi photographs, around the same time that the photo editor of the Daily Mail said he receives at least 300 to 400 photos of Middleton per day.
Middleton has not commented on the event.
