Royal Valentine’s Day: The Duke and Duchess spend the holiday apart

A British title does not always a fairy tale make. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, had to go without a Valentine’s Day date this year, thanks to her husband’s deployment to the Falkland Islands.

Luckily for the lady, several adorable young Brits stepped in to ensure that she didn’t go without a Valentine. The princess spent the day visiting charities in Liverpool, and received flowers and cards from admirers, including 8-year-old Jaqson Johnston-Lynch, who also handed the beaming Middleton a cupcake iced with the words “Jaqson loves Kate.”

His mother, Jacquie, is the head of the nonprofit Action on Addiction, which welcomed Kate to The Brink, a dry bar for recovering alcoholics.

But Kate assured her young admirer that her husband hadn’t forgotten the special romantic holiday, and had sent her flowers and a card earlier that morning.

Kate later stopped by the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, visiting critically ill children and their families.

The duchess opted for a chocolate-brown wool coat by Hobbs for the day of events, which sold out within an hour, the Mirror reports.

Kate has been taking the opportunity to make several official solo appearances as Prince William completes his six-week tour of duty in the Falklands. Palace officials have also confirmed that Kate will be teaming with the queen and Prince Charles’ wife, Camilla, for a visit to a new restaurant at the department store Fortnum and Mason on March 1.
