Ecuador gets the first free kick

But Swiss goalkeeper Diego Benaglio, who trained with high-tech “strobe glasses,” shut it down.

The Daily Mail writes:

The strobe glasses, used across a variety of sports, are designed to heighten the concentration of athletes as they try to execute skills in spite of the devices’ disco-like distractions. The wearer must focus on what they’re doing while the light gets lighter, darker and flashes. “

So far, it looks like they worked.

A note for fans of Italy: The Peroni will taste especially good today at the Queen Vic on H Street NE — the English pub is serving a keg of the Italian beer after losing a bet with its neighbor Vendetta over Saturday’s Group D showdown.

Ecuador tragically without striker Christian Benitez

Team Ecuador is playing for more than just the trophy this year. They’re playing for the memory of star striker Christian Benitez, who died suddenly in July of heart failure. He was playing for a team in Qatar.

Not only did this devastate the team’s spirit, but also Ecuador’s technical offensive ability. You can bet players like the two Valencias, Enner and Antonio, will be trying as hard as they can to get three points for Ecuador today.

It should be a good game today in Brasilia.

He floated away from his defender and gets one past the Swiss keeper Diego Benaglio. Maybe those fancy glasses didn’t work for the Swiss man after all…
