Clint Dempsey lifts Fulham past Liverpool, sets U.S. scoring record in Premier League

Clint Dempsey converted a rebound in the 85th minute Monday to give Fulham a 1-0 victory over Liverpool and set an American record for career goals in the English Premier League. With his 37th strike since joining the London club in 2007, Dempsey moved ahead of former Fulham striker Brian McBride.

In other U.S. player news from abroad.....

Defender Oguchi Onyewu played 90 minutes in Sporting Lisbon’s 2-0 victory over Beleneses in a Taca de Portugal match.

In Denmark, midfielder Conor O’Brien played the final 15 minutes of Sonderjyske’s 4-0 loss to Odense.

And in England, Aston Villa announced starting goalkeeper Shay Given will miss a month with a hamstring injury, catapulting American Brad Guzan into the lead role. Guzan entered in the 32nd minute of Villa’s 1-0 loss to Manchester United over the weekend and is slated to start against Bolton on Saturday.
