Clint Dempsey scores again for Fulham in 1-1 draw with Chelsea

American midfielder Clint Dempsey continued his torrid scoring pace Monday, heading in a late equalizer as Fulham drew with visiting Chelsea, 1-1, in the English Premier League.

Dempsey has scored four goals in the past three matches and 16 in league play this season, tying him for fourth place in the EPL. He has 22 goals in all competitions to forge one of the finest seasons by an American overseas in U.S. soccer history. Dempsey scored twice Saturday at Bolton.

Dempsey’s header in the 82nd minute took a deflection before settling into the far side of the net, making it subject for review as to whether it should be ruled an own goal.

For an update on U.S. national team ticket sales.....

More than 40,000 tickets have been sold for the U.S. men’s national soccer team’s friendly against Brazil on May 30 at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.

The figure for the USA vs. Scotland friendly four days earlier in Jacksonville, Fla., is 21,000. However, only 4,500 seats have been claimed for the World Cup qualifying opener June 8 against Antigua in Tampa.

Sales for the U.S. women’s national soccer team friendly against China on May 27 in Chester, Pa., are around 7,000.

The El Salvador vs. Honduras men’s friendly June 2 at RFK Stadium has surpassed 8,000 — an early indication of a huge turnout by the Latin American community, which typically purchases tickets in the final days before a match.
