D.C. United at Houston Dynamo: Opening of BBVA Compass Stadium

Greetings from Houston, where last night’s brutal thunderstorms have passed and today’s MLS matche between the Dynamo and D.C. United at the new BBVA Compass Stadium should proceed without weather issues. To get you ready.....

I offer stories about MLS’s stadiums (and United’s lack of a new home) and the re-emergence of Bill Hamid and Andy Najar. Here’s an image of today’s Sports front.

The Houston Chronicle continues its superb coverage of the stadium opening with a story on the front of the print edition’s main section.

Happy 25th birthday to United’s Chris Pontius.

A road-trip dining shout-out to Pappasito’s, where I broke tortillas with NBC writer Steve Davis and MLS’s Will Kuhns last night.

VIPs: Houston mayor Annise Parker, minority investor and boxing legend Oscar de la Hoya, former Dynamo president Oliver Luck and No. 1 overall NFL pick Andrew Luck, and MLS Commissioner Don Garber.

TV details: Coverage on NBC Sports Network begins at 4:30 p.m. ET, but kickoff isn’t until close to 5 p.m. With the match ending around 7 o’clock, that gives you a half-hour to prepare for the Washington Capitals’ Game 7 at New York on the same channel.

DCU: Hamid; Russell, McDonald, Woolard, Korb; Cruz, Kitchen, De Rosario, Najar; Pontius, Santos. Subs: Willis, White, King, Boskovic, Neal, Salihi, Wolff.

HOU: Hall; Taylor, Boswell, Cameron, Hainault; Carr, Moffat, Watson, Davis; Ching, Bruin. Subs: Deric, Ashe, Camargo, Clark, Dixon, Sturgis, Kandji.

Lineups to come around 3:30 p.m.....

Your pregame, in-game and postgame thoughts are welcome in our comments section. Enjoy!
