D.C. United at Sporting Kansas City: Dwayne De Rosario out with shoulder injury

Dwayne De Rosario won’t play in D.C. United’s match Saturday night against Sporting Kansas City because of a shoulder injury suffered last weekend, Coach Ben Olsen confirmed.

De Rosario, tied for the MLS assists lead with 10, was the only United player to start each of the previous 21 regular season matches, recording 1,812 of a possible 1,890 minutes.

He has also been scratched from Canada’s roster ahead of Wednesday’s friendly against Trinidad and Tobago in Lauderhill, Fla.

After suggesting earlier in the week that De Rosario would be available Saturday, the club listed him as “doubtful” on the official injury list. Two other attacking players are sidelined: Maicon Santos (toe) and Hamdi Salihi (viral infection). They join an ailing group that includes defenders Daniel Woolard (concussion) and Robbie Russell (foot).

For a look at Olsen’s defensive options, here is my print/online edition preview written yesterday.

Kickoff: 8:30 p.m. ET.

Video: Comcast SportsNet (D.C.), Direct Kick, MLS Live.

DCU: Hamid; Korb, McDonald, Dudar, Chabala; Najar, Kitchen, Boskovic, DeLeon; Pontius, Tan. Subs: Willis, Jakovic, White, Neal, Saragosa, Cruz, Wolff.

SKC: Nielsen; Harrington, Collin, Besler, Markovic; Nagamura, Thomas, Espinoza; Zusi, Bunbury, Kamara. Subs: Kronberg, Rosell, Myers, Cesar, Aiyegbusi, Saad, Sapong.
