D.C. United vs. Colorado Rapids

A warm, dry evening at RFK Stadium? For a change, the football weather gods are smiling on East Capitol Street tonight.

D.C. United (5-4-3) begins a stretch of three home matches in 11 days by welcoming the Colorado Rapids (5-5-0).

Among the expected guests in the owner’s box: Joel Ward, Brooks Laich, John Carlson and Mathieu Perreault of the Washington Capitals. Ward is from the same Toronto district (Scarborough) as Dwayne De Rosario. United will present them DCU jerseys with names and numbers.

DeRo, by the way, turned 34 yesterday. And he is expected to be named to Canada’s roster Thursday for the USA friendly June 3 in Toronto and World Cup qualifiers June 8 and 12. (United doesn’t have any league matches during that stretch.)

United will pay tribute to Washington music legend Chuck Brown, the Godfather of Go-Go, who died today at age 75. We will always be “Bustin’ Loose.”

U.S. Open Cup update: United will play the third-tier Richmond Kickers or amateur Aegean Hawks (D.C.) in the third round May 29. DCU would play at Richmond or host the Hawks at Maryland SoccerPlex. Full details here.

Since losing the home opener to Sporting Kansas City, United is 3-0-2 at home with 12 goals for and five against. The Rapids had lost four straight away before winning at Dallas 10 days ago.

Kickoff: 7:30 p.m. ET.

TV: Comcast SportsNet (locally), Direct Kick and MLS Live (nationally).

DCU: Hamid; Russell, McDonald, Woolard, Korb; Najar, Kitchen, Boskovic, Neal; De Rosario, Salihi. Subs: Willis, Jakovic, Saragosa, King, Cruz, Pontius, Wolff.

COLO: Pickens; Freeman, Moor, Marshall, Zapata; Mullan, Larentowicz, Rivero, Castrillon; Cascio, Casey. Subs: Ceus, Kimura, Palguta, Henao, Thompson, Hill, Edu.
