It’s the penultimate day of group play at Euro 2012, with Croatia playing Spain (ESPN) and Italy playing Ireland (ESPN2) in Group C action at 2:45 p.m.
Croatia (four points), Spain (four points) and Italy (two points) all have a chance to advance to the knockout stage out of Group C, with only Ireland (zero points) eliminated already. Italy is hoping that Croatia and Spain don’t play to a 2-2 tie, because that would send the Azzurri home, a la 2004, when Sweden and Denmark played to a 2-2 draw to knock out the Italians because of tiebreakers on the final day of group play.
Here are the Group C scenarios.
In Sunday’s Group B action, Germany beat Denmark, 2-1, and Portugal topped the Netherlands, also 2-1, with the winners off to the quarterfinals.
