A Russia win combined with a draw in the early game would put the Russians through to the knockout round.
In Monday’s Group D action, France’s offense was frustrated by England in a 1-1 draw, and Andriy Shevchenko’s two goals sent co-host Ukraine to a 2-1 win over Sweden.
