Friday kickaround: D.C. United vs. FC Dallas, NBC Sports Network, Dwayne De Rosario, Brek Shea, DCU friendlies, UEFA Europa League, Americans abroad

*Heading into tonight’s match against FC Dallas, D.C. United believes it has begun to turn a corner after an encouraging performance last weekend.

*Here’s the page image of the United spread in the print edition.

*Game-time weather at RFK Stadium: low 50s with a 40 percent chance of light rain.

*Tonight’s match marks United’s debut on NBC Sports Network (formerly known as Versus). Arlo White and Kyle Martino have the match commentary. Russ Thaler, a former Comcast SportsNet/DC ace who hosts “NBC SportsTalk,”will handle the pregame, halftime and postgame segments.

*The last time United won at RFK? Sept. 24 against Real Salt Lake. Dwayne De Rosario had three goals and an assist. (My match account from that memorable night.)

*Will Brek Shea, just back from U.S. Olympic duty, play for FC Dallas? “Brek will definitely be an option,” Coach Schellas Hyndman said. “He’s healthy. What he’s going through right now is a lot of mental frustrations and disappointments, and we’ve got to be aware of that and not let that affect his emotions.”

*United is exploring friendlies in early June, late July and mid-October during extended breaks on the MLS calendar. As we’ve told you, something seems close to fruition in July. Meantime, a report in the Irish Independent says Shamrock Rovers, Ireland’s most successful club, is in talks with United. I haven’t heard a word from DCU on this possibility. Sounds like a third party is attempting to arrange it. [Update: This isn’t happening.]

*Americans in UEFA Europa League on Thursday:

Quarterfinals, first leg

D Steve Cherundolo 90 minutes in Hanover’s 2-1 loss at Atletico Madrid

MF Jermaine Jones 90 in Schalke’s 4-2 loss to Athletic Bilbao

F Jozy Altidore 77 in AZ Alkmaar’s 2-1 win over Valencia

D Oguchi Onyewu didn’t play (knee rehab) in Sporting Lisbon’s 2-1 win over Metalist Kharkiv

The second legs are next Thursday

*Americans abroad on Friday:

D Jonathan Spector and Birmingham at Doncaster

F Matt Taylor and Paderborn at Braunschweig

MF Jose Torres and Pachuca vs. F Joe Corona, D Edgar Castillo and Tijuana (10 p.m. ET, Galavision)
